Colleen Johansen

Colleen Johansen is a 7th grade math teacher at Mason Middle School. She brings to life the districts vision of Inclusive Excellence in addition to going above for her students. One student shared, "Mrs. Johansen recognizes each of us as individuals and and is always finding unique and creative ways to make sure we excel in what we are doing. She would go over the district's "Portrait of a Comet" and model how we should behave in class."

In addition to going above and beyond in the classroom, Collleen looks for ways to enhance student learning outside the classroom. For example Colleeen and two colleagues receieved an MSF grant to develop an adaptive cheer team for students in specialized cllasses (grades 7-12). Colleen volunteers her time to coach the team to enhance student learning by providing an inclusive athletic experience for Mason students with disabilities who would not otherwise have the opporty to particpate.
